After High school, you can begin working while furthering your education with more classes at Gadsden State Community College in the HVAC/R program. With 2 years of work experience and an associates degree, the possibilities and benefits are endless. The Bureau of Labor for 2020 shows that the national average salary for HVAC technicians is $50,590 per year
$24.32 per hour. This profession has a Job Outlook of 4% more needed techs in the next 10 years, 376,800 more.

This is a program with hands on experience along with classroom theory. This career choice is an introduction to air-conditioning and refrigeration, exploring career opportunities in the HVAC/R industry, personal safety and work practices, and personal protective equipment. Students will be instructed in the proper handling of pressurized systems, handling hazardous substances, hand and power tools, and equipment used to test and service air conditioning & heating systems; the installation, servicing, troubleshooting and repairing of heating and air conditioning systems in residences; installing, connecting and adjusting thermostats, understanding PSC and ECM motors, laying out and connecting electrical wiring between controls and equipment accordingly; and fabricating, assembling and installing duct work. On completion of this program a student should have obtained knowledge to become a maintenance technician/installer for HVAC/R systems, while obtaining a competitive starting pay right out of high school.
You can become part of an industry for an established Air Conditioning or Refrigeration Company. This program teaches how to operate, manage, install and service HVAC/R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration) equipment. You will have the opportunity to earn refrigeration certification that is required for any technician who is involved in handling or purchasing refrigerants. Students that are motivated to complete the program can enter into this career field as an HVAC/R technician, mechanic, specialist and supervisor or continue their studies at Gadsden State Community College.
Leave High School with Industry Credentials! The US Environmental Protection Agency Exam covers four areas covered in the course, the Core assessment, Servicing Small Appliances, Low Pressure Refrigerants and High Pressure Refrigerants. This is an Universal Technician refrigerant certification. Also, other nationally recognized Industry certificates through ESCO. (www. escoinst.com - HVAC Excellence) College and Career Ready Indicator (CRI)
A 10-hour OSHA card in Construction will also be obtained along with testing for the Industry Competency Test (ICE) will be offered.
NCCER is the new credential that all first year students will obtain for a construction credential. This is a credentialing group that allows the student to build a working transcript for the building and construction trades. College and Career Ready Indicator (CRI)
